Pete, you are a lifesaver!
With an old PC that had Windows 3.1 until it crashed years ago, I haven't used it. So I dug it up the other day, ONLY to find that the FLOPPIES WERECORRUPT!
And, with all these other sites telling me to go to eBay (I use Australia), however, there were none! And I thought, "Why should I buy the disks again, which I will hardly use"

Once again, you are a lifesaver!

Cheers from Australia

P.S. I'm looking for free anti-virus and firewall (did they have one back then?) so if you know post here. And for your site: :secret: THE WORD WILL BE PASSED!

:spoton: Thanks peteweb!

I have an old Laptop in which I want to replace the OS's on it (it's currently running Windows 95, and performance on it is poor). I feel 3.11 will imrpove performance and speed up loading time. Thank you once again for offering these links for download.

I downloaded WFW 3.11, but the files are too big to fit on floppies, and the ones that do fit give an error message saying that they cannot be run in DOS mode... what do I do?

Never mind. I don't know whether it was the 35 hours without sleep or the fact that I've been away from DOS and Win 3.x for a while, but it took me a while to realize that the files in the zip folder were self-extractors. Everything's working fine now.

The posting you requested has been removed because its link is no longer valid. It was humorous yet it doesn't exist anymore. Sorry for the confusion. However the other links posted above by Pete are valid! Enjoy.

Im not trying to be a jerk, but what is the legal position regarding the hosting of these old OSs?

If it is of no concern, would I be able to host these OSs on my site as well with out fear of consequence?

They're considered "abandonware" - meaning that they aren't sold, distributed or supported by the creator. In the case of games, you can occassionally get in hot water because people sometimes re-release games in "classic collections." Operating systems, on the other hands, aren't likely to suffer the same fate. Therefor, while they still hold a viable copyright, most OS creators turn a blind-eye to abandonware. Such is the case here - these files have been here for years. That's also why there's no OSs here that still have widespread usage (such as NT or 95). These files are provided solely for folks who want to refurbish old machines that can only run these old OSs.

Im sure it doesnt really make a difference. The program is so old and is definatly not used, it really is no difference what the minor version number is.

There might be a problem with your internet connection, the first time I tried downloading, I kept getting corrupt zipped files and they would not open, during that time, I was on a computer with a cell phone card (a PCMCIA card that connects to the internet by using a cell phone service like Nextel or T-Mobile, I was on nextel), I used a different computer that used Road Runner as it's ISP, and they downloaded just fine.

I used two downloaded ISOs off this site for disk 5 and 6 and used my existing disks 1-4, the install was flawless, well, not exactly flawless, my DOS disketts were corrupt, I did the sys command with a boot disk I made off another website, it did not work, I made the 6.22 boot disk off this site, booted from the floppy, and did the commands below

A:\>C:\windows\win

worked like a charm, windows booted and I was able to access the OS, I now downloaded the dos install from this site, one wonderful site :yikes: i'm spreading the word

well, around the time of 3.1, the internet wasn't that developed yet, so viruses were not really something you worried about, now with the idea of downloading, one can send malware and the recevee wouldn't even know that, not only that but older computers like that are so slow that tehy would crash on anything close to a anti-spyware/virus/malware program or firewall (there might be firewalls out there, but remember that your system could be so slow that you'd rather just take the virus)
